Minimum enrollment standards:
All individuals enrolling as part of the Blue Lakes program must have a minimum 10-foot width buffer of natural shore (natural rock outcrops included), and no hardened shorelines (no walls or Gabion baskets). Exceptions are *grandfathered situations that would otherwise result in sedimentation of the lake basin. (*Send pictures of shore)
Minimum threshold to participate:
Beginning the journey is easy. All you need are three or more people within a lake community, who will form a management committee to apply to become a Blue Lake.
Once the application is complete (coming in 2020), you will be sent a score card and a Blue Lakes supporter flag. Educational materials, workshops, communications, content, etc. are available to help you on this conservation journey. To maintain your status, all you need to do is achieve gains in five of the performance measures, which includes increasing awareness and increasing the interest and uptake of the label around your lake community. We will be here to answer any questions.
